To Find the Future
No one can say that I'm not willing to take on the big questions, like what is the meaning to life. I may lack concrete answers and yet, I'm willing to make them up. Oddly enough, a poem called "To Find the Future" inspired me to tackle this subject. The poem is located on the website: www.sacredpoems.com
To Find the Future
What is it that guides you
To search and pursue change
Sorting out the pieces
And how to rearrange
What is it that drive you
To seek that which is lost
Uncovering the treasure
But then what of the cost
Perhaps it is your purpose
Perhaps a chosen road
But not without some challenge
And to carry a heavy load
So break the chains that bind you
Throw caution to the wind
It’s time to find the future
As life begins again

I'm at a point in my life when I'm re-evaluating what gives my life purpose and meaning. For that past 13 years, my top priority has been to be a loving and supportive father to my two sons. I can think of few greater joys in life. While fatherhood continues to provide purpose for my life, there is space for spiritual growth in other areas of my life too. That is why I have returned to school to work towards my graduate degree in counseling. As a future therapist, I look forward to counseling others and help them grow and overcome major obstacles in their lives. This is my journey to become a healer.
My previous blog entries address some of the questions that I have about organized religion and the answers that it provides. I have been told that the meaning to life is to serve God. That answer seems vague to me. Which god do worship and how would a god want to be served? I agree that serving others and working towards the betterment of mankind and the world are noble goals.
I believe that we create our own meaning for life. Find your passions and pursue them; that is your purpose. It is by living out our purpose that gives life meaning. It may be difficult to make our dreams come true. Grad school can be very challenging. I'm hoping that it's worth it in the end and I learn a lot in the process.
What gives your life meaning and purpose? (feel free to comment & share) First you have to dream it and then you have to live it.
